ABOUT US

page about us
Our Society is the longest established in the area, having been formed in 1941 by 6 friends from the
Art School in Silver Street, Grimsby. We currently have aroud 100 members with a wide range of
abilities, from beginners and hobby painters to professional artists, aged 15 to over 90. We welcome
members from all of Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and what was 'Humberside'

We try to arrange a varied calendar of activities for members, beginning in February with our AGM
which is followed by a lunch and a demo/talk by a guest artist. The day gives members a chance to
kick off the year with an enjoyable social occasion and catch up with friends, as well as checking up
on how the Society is progressing.

Throughout the year there are more opportunities to get together, with social painting sessions,
held in Grimsby Minster and Cambridge Park. Outdoor painting days in summer and workshops
with well respected artists (these have included Fraser Scarfe, Ashley Jackson, Bryan Ryder,
Jeremy Ford, Terry Harrison, Roy Lang, Robert Wareing, Jill Carter and Vic Bearcroft).

We hold 2 exhibitions each year. In recent times our main exhibition of the year has been held in the
beautiful setting of Grimsby Minster, which is a fabulous venue and always very well attended. The
second event is held in various locations in the Grimsby/Cleethorpes area.

We end the year on a high with our Christmas lunch, followed by a demonstration by a visiting artist.

We are a friendly group, and new members are always welcomed and encouraged to take part in any
of our activities.
